Aprons

My Granny sent me a forward a while back that has become the inspiration for this post... APRONS! I myself am not much of a cook, but the chance to wear a really cute apron is a good way to get me motivated ;) I have a couple really cute ones from Pier 1, I just received one as a gift for my birthday from a precious friend in fact. I am a fan of ruffles and fun prints. Enjoy the cute Apron story from my sweet Granny and a few options you may want to wear around your kitchen.

The History of {APRONS}

I don't think our kids
know what an apron is.
The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few and because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons required less material.  But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing
hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.
From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.

And when the weather was cold, Grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.
 From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables.
After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.

In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.
When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes.

Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about Grandma's aprons.

REMEMBER:
Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool.  Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill
to thaw.

They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron
.

I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron - but love...

Monograms

I heart monograms. I am pretty sure that I could become obsessive with them... I have had my eye on the necklace cutie pie Taylor Swift is wearing, for quite some time. I just can't decide if this is something I should buy myself though, kinda holding out that my cute hubby just might buy it for me one of these days. For now, I will just admire it from afar. By the way Alexis from the Orange County Housewives has a diamond one ;)

{told ya I lOvE it!}

Another fun monogrammed thing I am eyeing is a new iPhone case~
How cute is this?! There are a million options too.
By now you are probably wondering where I found these cute things...
There are a bunch of websites out there that offer them, but I've checked the prices and they are pretty much all the same, so I will just send you to one... www.girlytwirly.com
I love their site! A precious girlfriend of mine introduced me to it when she purchased a darling barrette for my daughters hair from them.
{They have monogrammed barrettes too ;)}
Of course I love having my daughter's stuff monogrammed, so I'll share a couple friends websites that can monogram just about anything...
 www.tickledsewpink.com
&
www.sewmanyties.blogspot.com
Both of these businesses are owned by some precious friends of mine and they do fantastic work!
My daughter's Easter basket by Tickled Sew Pink :)
I have this exact tote with my initials on it from Sew Many Ties :)

Happy Monday Everybody!

like my monogram? ;)

Silhouettes

I love Silhouettes. Aren't they so pretty? Simple.Classic.Interesting. I love how they are so simple, yet evoke such imagination... they are like black and white photos, you get to insert your own colors and emotion into the image before you. With that in mind I dedicate this post to some fabulous Silhouettes I have found... These adorable tees are from "Oh Fiddlesticks" {I have a button to their page on my page} I love them! I became an instant fan as soon as I saw the first one pictured... You have to check out this photographer Laura Winslow too, she has photographed all of their clothing, I love the vividness of her photos. Another favorite of mine is linked to these two... The Tomkat Studio, this girl knows how to design. Her party inspirations are my favorite! She designed a whole party around the pink silhouette tee... Amazing!

Back to the subject of my post. I became a recent fan of "Le Papier Studio" They create anything and everything into your very own silhouette art... the options are endless, so rather than me tell you what they can do, I added a button to the side bar of my blog that will take you to their blog. Here are just a few examples to wet your palate...
